These infants should also complete their hepatitis B vaccine by 6 months of age, and have a blood test done at 9-12 months of age to determine if they are protected against hepatitis B. Perinatal HBV transmission can be prevented by identifying HBV positive pregnant women and providing hepatitis B immune globulin and hepatitis B vaccine to their infants within 12 hours of birth.
